Greetings. I finished the truffle boxes. This is an 18th Century Swiss-Nyon design. I thought you might like to see

Truffle Box- Swiss Nyon Style - Before (L) and After (R)
Good morning!
I fired my truffle boxes yesterday, but held one out of the firing process so you could see what the 24KT gold looks like “before and after”. In the photo, the box on the left has the gold applied – it looks almost black. Once the gold has been fired, I take it out of the kiln and burnish it with fiberglass or with burnishing sand. The box on the right has been fired and then burnished.
I can paint these boxes in one fire:
The gold is applied first. I let that dry. I apply paint, let it dry, then apply the darker colored paints on top of the dried paint to give the flowers the extra definition. There is even something painted in the very bottom of the box as an added ’surprise’ when one opens it and looks inside!
Back to painting!
After the flurry of activity to get ready for my radio show, I’m back in the studio painting. Boy, it feels so good!
I painted six truffle boxes in Swiss Nyon Style. They are cooling in the kiln as I type. As soon as I can safely handle them, I’ll get them out and snap some pictures so you can see what they look like.
Cheers!
My first talk radio show aired this afternoon – My guest, Raphael Iaccarino, shared so much, I was awed and amazed. I hope you will take a look at his work at http://www.geocities.com/iaccarinoart. He not only does fabulous watercolor paintings, he also composes and records music. His music, as well as his art, is incredible.
I also had the pleasure of speaking at a Ladie’s Tea Saturday afternoon about my porcelain art, my website and radio show. My wonderful mother was able to come with me. We had a great time.

Please join my on my Radio Talk show today at 2PM! Here is how to get to the web page so you can listen in:
This has been a big week. My first monthly newsletter went out on St. Patrick’s Day. My mother is half Irish (her family came from Belfast), so that makes me 1/4 Irish. I thought it appropriate to send out the initial issue of my eZine on March 17th. (For the “luck of the Irish”, you know)!
If you haven’t signed up already, you can go to my website at http://www.kimmccool.com and click on ‘Newsletter’ to receive your monthly issue. I promise they will be entertaining and informative.
Tomorrow I will be giving a talk at a Ladies Tea about my art and my radio show. It will be fun!
THREE DAYS until my new talk radio show on BLOGTALKRADIO. You can get to the broadcast Monday, March 23rd, at 2PM by going to my website and clicking on ‘Blog Radio’. If you can’t listen to the live show, it will be available for replay.
Have a great weekend.
My painting guild had a meeting this past Monday. A member of the guild, Judy K., has been so giving of herself and time over the years, a plot was hatched. Unbeknownst to her a surprise “Honor Judy Day” was planned months ago – and March 16th was ‘The Day’.
Judy loves to paint poppies. As each member presented her with a silk poppy, we told her how much we appreciated her and how special she is to us. A glass vase made the gifts of silk poppies complete, as she had enough to fill the vase.
I’ve learned a lot from Judy. If I can show half as much thoughtfulness and kindness she shows to all who meet

her, I will be a much better person. We need more “Judys” in this world.
Judy – here’s to you! – CHEERS!
Seven days until the launch of my new radio talk show, “Discover the Heart of Art with Kim McCool”. I’ve been busy scheduling other artists for upcoming shows. Be sure to check my website (http://www.kimmccool.com) under the “Blog Radio” tab to see who is scheduled.

When visiting my mother in Florida this past February, we drove to Dunedin, FL to view the MASF exhibit. It was WONDERFUL! Every time I go, I come away inspired and motivated to improve my art. The artists and entries are incredible. There are many different mediums on display – from oil to watercolor to sculpture – all ‘in miniature’. I was honored to have been juried in to the show for the second year in a row. If you have never seen an ‘art in miniature’ display, you are truly missing something. Don’t forget to go to my website (http://www.kimmccool.com )and sign up for my newsletter – the first issue discusses miniature art.
